For Indonesian founders

Form a US LLC from Indonesia and settle in dollars.

Midtrans and Xendit settle only in rupiah — Xendit says so directly, citing Bank Indonesia regulation. Stripe lists Indonesia as preview-only. A Wyoming LLC with an EIN is how Indonesian founders reach dollar settlement.

Why Indonesian founders need a US LLC

The challenges of building globally from Indonesia.

Local processors settle in rupiah, by regulation

Xendit's own help centre states it cannot settle merchants in USD, and the reason is regulatory rather than technical: Bank Indonesia Regulation 17/3/PBI/2015 mandates rupiah for transactions conducted within Indonesian territory. If you price in dollars, you convert before the charge settles and absorb the spread and the FX risk.

Stripe is preview-only for Indonesian businesses

Stripe lists Indonesia under preview with a contact-sales link rather than open self-serve signup. In practice that means you cannot simply register and start charging the way a founder in a fully supported country can, and access is not guaranteed.

Dollar pricing and rupiah settlement pull in opposite directions

A SaaS or digital-services business selling globally prices in dollars because that is what its customers expect. Settling in rupiah means every sale carries a conversion, and your revenue is exposed to a currency your customers never agreed to.

International clients expect to pay a US entity

US procurement, marketplaces and affiliate programmes are built around paying a US company with an EIN and a W-9. A US LLC removes a step your buyer would otherwise have to work around.

The solution

What a US LLC gives Indonesian founders.

1

Dollar settlement, without the rupiah conversion

A Wyoming LLC with an EIN gives you a US entity that can hold a US business account and settle in dollars, so revenue stays in the currency you priced in until you decide to move it.

2

Stripe becomes available on normal terms

Stripe supports US businesses with an EIN through standard self-serve signup — no preview list, no contact-sales gate. This is the practical difference a US entity makes for an Indonesian founder.

3

$100 to form, $60 a year to maintain

Wyoming's Articles of Organization fee is $100 and the annual report is $60 (or $0.0002 per dollar of Wyoming-based assets, whichever is greater), with no state income tax.

Indonesia's developer and digital-services sector sells heavily into Singapore, Australia and the United States, and the recurring friction is that local payment infrastructure is designed — deliberately and by regulation — around the domestic rupiah economy. That works well for merchants serving Indonesian customers and poorly for founders whose customers are abroad and paying in dollars.

Can an Indonesian resident own a US LLC?

We found no prohibition on an Indonesian resident owning a foreign company, and Indonesian tax residents report worldwide income on the annual SPT. What we could not verify is whether a specific foreign-asset declaration threshold applies to a US LLC interest, or how Indonesia's controlled-foreign-company rules treat an individual member. Rather than guess at a number, we will say plainly: ask an Indonesian tax adviser about your reporting duty before you form.

Do Indonesia's export-proceeds rules apply to my software business?

The DHE SDA regime — overhauled by Government Regulation No. 21 of 2026, effective 1 June 2026 — requires natural-resource exporters to retain proceeds domestically. It applies to natural-resource exports, not to software or services. Some formation sites cite it loosely as if it affects every exporter; for a SaaS or agency founder it does not.

Will a US LLC give me a Stripe account?

A Wyoming LLC with an EIN meets Stripe's US-business requirement and removes the preview-list gate that applies to Indonesian entities. Stripe still underwrites each account individually, so approval is not automatic.

Is there a US–Indonesia tax treaty?

Yes. Indonesia has an income tax treaty in force with the United States, listed on the IRS treaty index. What that means for your specific income is a question for a cross-border tax professional — RazorFile files companies and does not give tax advice.

Which US banks accept Indonesian founders?

Fewer than you might expect, and this is worth knowing before you buy. We read Mercury's prohibited-countries page directly in July 2026 and Indonesia is on it — Mercury will not open accounts for founders living there, even with a US company. Payoneer serves Indonesia. Relay does not list Indonesia as prohibited, though approval is always at the provider's discretion. Check each provider's own country page before you rely on this.

How long does formation take?

Wyoming usually processes filings within one to three business days of submission. The EIN follows; because the IRS online tool is unavailable to applicants based outside the US, foreign founders apply by fax or mail, which takes longer than the online route.

Do I need to understand US legal paperwork?

No. RazorFile keeps the process plain-language and organised so you know what is needed, what is paid, and what happens next at every stage of your order.

What is a Registered Agent and do I need one?

A Registered Agent is required for every US LLC, regardless of where you live. They receive official government and legal correspondence on your company's behalf at a physical address in your formation state. RazorFile provides this service.
