What Stripe Atlas does better
- The $2,500 in Stripe processing credits substantially offsets the price if you are going to process meaningful volume through Stripe — for many founders that alone makes Atlas cheaper in practice than it looks.
- 83(b) election filing and founder equity issuance are included. Those are genuinely fiddly to get right, they matter enormously if you later raise, and we do not handle either.
- Their India founder guide is the best country-specific content published by any company in this market, covering FEMA and ODI compliance properly. We say that as a competitor.
- Being Stripe means the Stripe account side is about as smooth as it gets.
Stay with Stripe Atlas if
You are building a startup that intends to raise US venture capital, you want a Delaware C-Corp with 83(b) and equity issuance handled, and you will process real volume through Stripe. In that case Atlas is very likely the better product and we would rather you use it than buy something cheaper that does not fit.
Where the two differ
Delaware only, and that is the main constraint
Atlas incorporates in Delaware. Delaware is the right answer for venture-backed startups and often the wrong answer for a bootstrapped founder — Wyoming's $100 filing fee and $60 annual report compare with Delaware's higher ongoing costs and franchise tax regime. If you are not raising, you may be paying for a structure built for a path you are not on.
EIN timelines for founders without an SSN
Atlas quotes 15 to 45 days for an EIN where the responsible party has no SSN. The IRS's own stated target for its fax programme is around four business days, though foreign applications routinely run longer in practice. We will not promise you a four-day EIN either, but the gap is worth knowing when you are planning a launch.
Price is not really the differentiator
$500 including government fees and first-year agent against our $349 all-in is a real difference, but the $2,500 in Stripe credits inverts it for anyone processing volume. The honest framing is not cost — it is whether you want a Delaware venture-ready structure or a low-maintenance Wyoming operating company.
If you are switching
Atlas forms Delaware entities. Moving to a Wyoming LLC is not a switch of providers, it is forming a different company in a different state — with its own EIN, its own bank accounts and a decision about what happens to the original entity. That is a real cost and worth taking advice on. If you already have an Atlas Delaware company that suits you, there is usually no good reason to move.
