For Nigerian founders

Form a US LLC from Nigeria and get paid in real dollars.

Stripe does not support businesses incorporated in Nigeria, and Flutterwave settles naira-card transactions in naira no matter what currency the customer paid in. A Wyoming LLC with an EIN is how Nigerian founders reach USD rails that Nigerian entities cannot.

No charge until secure checkout. State fees shown before payment.

Why Nigerian founders need a US LLC

The challenges of building globally from Nigeria.

Stripe does not support Nigerian companies — and Paystack is not a substitute

Nigeria does not appear among the countries where Stripe supports businesses. Stripe lists Nigeria only through its "extended network" via Paystack, which Stripe acquired — but a Paystack account is not a Stripe account, and it does not give you Stripe's global checkout, Billing or Connect. If you need Stripe itself, you need an entity in a country Stripe supports.

Naira-card revenue settles in naira regardless of the currency you charged

Flutterwave's own settlement documentation states that for Nigerian merchants, transactions originating from a naira card settle in naira irrespective of the currency used at checkout, in line with Nigeria's dollarisation policy. Paystack can pay out USD, but only into a Zenith Bank USD domiciliary account — without one, dollar payments convert to naira on the way in.

Accessing foreign currency runs through Form A, and it is rationed

Foreign exchange for services and personal transfers is accessed through Form A on the CBN Trade Monitoring System, with Form M covering imports. Allocations are administered at bank level and have been tightened repeatedly — founders routinely report long processing times and reduced per-application limits. A US LLC with a US account means your international revenue never has to enter that queue.

US and EU clients want to pay a US entity

Enterprise procurement, SaaS marketplaces, Apple Developer and most high-paying US affiliate programmes are built around paying a US company with an EIN and a W-9. A Nigerian entity adds friction at exactly the moment a client is ready to pay you.

The solution

What a US LLC gives Nigerian founders.

1

A Wyoming LLC is what makes Stripe possible at all

Stripe supports US businesses with an EIN. Forming a Wyoming LLC and obtaining an EIN is the standard, legitimate route Nigerian founders use to reach Stripe, Paddle and USD-denominated checkout — not a workaround, but a real US entity you own.

2

Wyoming is the cheapest US state to keep alive

Wyoming charges $100 to file your Articles of Organization and $60 a year for the annual report (or $0.0002 per dollar of Wyoming-based assets, whichever is greater). There is no Wyoming state income tax. For a founder without Wyoming assets, that is $60 a year to keep the company in good standing.

3

Entirely remote — no US visit, no US visa, no SSN

Formation and EIN are both handled without you entering the United States. Your Registered Agent's address satisfies the state's US-address requirement, and the IRS issues EINs to responsible parties who have no SSN.

Nigeria has one of the largest developer and digital-services populations in Africa, and Nigerian founders selling to US and European customers hit the same wall repeatedly: the product works, the customers are willing, and the payment rail is the constraint. Stripe's absence for Nigerian entities and the naira-settlement rule on local processors mean the bottleneck is structural rather than something better local banking can solve. A US LLC moves where the money lands first.

Can a Nigerian citizen living in Nigeria own a US LLC?

Yes. No US state imposes a citizenship or residency requirement on LLC ownership, and Nigerian law does not prohibit residents from owning foreign companies — the US State Department's 2025 investment climate statement notes Nigerian firms are not restricted from investing abroad. What we cannot tell you is whether you personally have a declaration duty to Nigerian authorities for that holding; we found no clear source either way, so ask a Nigerian tax adviser rather than assuming there is none.

Will a US LLC give me a working Stripe account?

A Wyoming LLC with an EIN meets Stripe's requirement for a US business entity, and this is the route most Nigerian founders use. Stripe still runs its own underwriting on every account and can decline or later review a business on its own terms, so treat the LLC as what makes Stripe possible rather than a guarantee of approval.

Which US banks accept Nigerian founders?

Fewer than most formation sites imply, so here is the position as of July 2026: Mercury added Nigeria to its prohibited-countries list in July 2024, Relay also excludes Nigeria, and Wise does not support holding money in Nigeria. Payoneer does serve Nigerian users. These lists change without much notice — check the provider's own page before relying on this, including ours.

Is there a US–Nigeria tax treaty?

No. Nigeria does not appear on the IRS list of countries with a United States income tax treaty in force. That matters for how US-source income is withheld and taxed, and it is a real reason to get cross-border tax advice before you structure anything. RazorFile files companies — we do not give tax advice.

How long does the EIN take without an SSN?

The IRS's online EIN tool is not available to applicants whose principal place of business is outside the US, so foreign responsible parties apply by fax or mail on Form SS-4, entering "foreign" where an SSN would go. The IRS states its fax programme generally returns an EIN within four business days; in practice foreign applications often take longer, and mail is stated at roughly four to five weeks. We will not promise you a four-day EIN.

How long does the Wyoming filing take?

Wyoming typically processes LLC filings in one to three business days once your documents are submitted. You receive your formation documents as soon as the state approves, and the EIN application follows.

Do I need to understand US legal paperwork?

No. RazorFile keeps the process plain-language and organised so you know what is needed, what is paid, and what happens next at every stage of your order.

What is a Registered Agent and do I need one?

A Registered Agent is required for every US LLC, regardless of where you live. They receive official government and legal correspondence on your company's behalf at a physical address in your formation state. RazorFile provides this service.
