Which US banks actually accept Egyptian founders?
Egypt does not appear on Mercury's prohibited-countries list, which puts Egyptian founders in a stronger position than most of the region. Read from each provider's own page rather than inferred.
Provider by provider
Verified July 28, 2026
Egypt is absent from Mercury's prohibited-countries list, and from its card-issuance and card-mailing restriction lists.
Wise opens accounts to residents of Egypt.
Payoneer supports Egypt, with USD among its settlement currencies.
We could not reach Relay's country list to confirm either way. Treat it as unknown rather than assuming — do not read the absence of a 'no' as a 'yes'.
Provider country policies change without public notice — Mercury revised its prohibited list in 2024 and has amended it since. Treat this page as a starting point that was accurate on the date shown, then check the provider's own page before you apply. We would rather you verify us than trust us on something this consequential.
Egypt is an outlier in the region, in a good way
Across the markets we researched, Mercury excludes founders in Nigeria, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Indonesia, Nepal and the Philippines. Egypt is on none of those lists. If you have been reading general advice that non-US founders cannot get US banking, that advice was largely written about other countries.
Egypt does not restrict investing abroad
US State Department investment climate reporting states Egypt does not restrict domestic investors from investing abroad, with outward investment above USD 10bn in a recent fiscal year. The ownership question that blocks founders in Nepal or Morocco does not arise here in the same form.
What we could not verify
We could not confirm whether any Central Bank of Egypt reporting duty attaches to holding a foreign company, and sources conflict on whether a per-individual annual transfer threshold survived the 2024 reforms. We are not going to publish a figure we cannot stand behind — ask an Egyptian tax adviser about your reporting position.
Worth knowing before you buy
Not appearing on a prohibited list is not a guarantee of approval. Providers underwrite each application individually and decline for reasons they do not publish. A favourable country position improves your odds; it does not remove the possibility of rejection.
Common questions
Can Egyptian founders open Mercury?
Egypt is not on Mercury's prohibited-countries list as of the date on this page, nor on its card-issuance or card-mailing restriction lists. Approval is still subject to Mercury's own underwriting, but the country-level barrier that blocks founders in much of the region does not apply.
What about Relay?
We could not reach Relay's published country list to check, so we are marking it unverified rather than guessing. If Relay matters to your plan, check their page directly before you form.
Do I need to declare the LLC in Egypt?
We could not verify whether a Central Bank of Egypt reporting duty attaches to owning a foreign company, and we found sources conflicting on the current individual transfer threshold. This is a question for an Egyptian tax adviser — publishing a confident answer here would be inventing one.
