Is Stripe available in Nigeria?
Not for Nigerian companies. Stripe lists Nigeria only under its extended network, which routes to Paystack. Paystack is a good product and it is not a Stripe account — that distinction is the whole answer.
What Stripe actually offers Nigeria
Verified July 28, 2026
Nigeria does not appear among the countries where Stripe supports businesses. A Nigerian-incorporated entity cannot hold a Stripe account.
Listed on Stripe's page as Nigeria's extended network. Stripe acquired Paystack, but it is a distinct product — no Stripe Billing, Checkout or Connect.
Stripe supports US businesses holding an EIN through ordinary self-serve signup. This is the route Nigerian founders use for Stripe proper.
Serves Nigerian merchants, but settles naira-card transactions in naira regardless of the currency charged, per its own settlement documentation.
Provider country policies change without public notice — Mercury revised its prohibited list in 2024 and has amended it since. Treat this page as a starting point that was accurate on the date shown, then check the provider's own page before you apply. We would rather you verify us than trust us on something this consequential.
What "extended network" actually means
Stripe's country page has three tiers: supported, preview, and extended network. Nigeria sits in the third alongside Ghana, Kenya, Côte d'Ivoire and South Africa. Extended network means Paystack, which Stripe bought in 2020. You get Nigerian card acquiring; you do not get the Stripe product surface — no Billing for subscriptions, no Checkout, no Connect for marketplace payouts.
Why this matters for a SaaS pricing page
If you are building software with recurring billing, the gap is not cosmetic. Stripe Billing handles subscriptions, proration, dunning and tax. Rebuilding that on a payment API that does not offer it is months of work you did not plan for, and it is the point at which most Nigerian founders start looking at a US entity.
The naira settlement problem sits underneath all of it
Flutterwave states that for Nigerian merchants, transactions originating from a naira card settle in naira irrespective of the currency used at checkout, in line with Nigeria's dollarisation policy. Paystack can pay out USD, but only into a Zenith Bank USD domiciliary account. So even where you can charge in dollars, you may not be paid in them.
Worth knowing before you buy
A US LLC gives you Stripe, but Nigeria has the narrowest US banking options of any market we have researched — Mercury, Relay and Wise all exclude Nigerian residents. Read the banking page before you decide, because the two problems have very different answers.
Common questions
Stripe's site lists Nigeria. Why can't I sign up?
Because the listing is under extended network, not supported countries. That entry routes to Paystack. Stripe owns Paystack, which is why it appears on Stripe's page at all, but signing up gives you a Paystack account with Paystack's feature set.
Is Paystack good enough?
For selling to Nigerian customers, genuinely yes. For international subscription software, it depends entirely on whether you need Stripe Billing, Checkout or Connect. If you do, no amount of Paystack quality substitutes for a product that does not include them.
Will a US LLC guarantee Stripe approval?
No. It removes the structural barrier — Stripe supports US entities with an EIN. Stripe still underwrites each account individually and can decline or later review a business on its own terms. Treat the LLC as making Stripe possible, not certain.
