Is Stripe available in India?

Only as preview. India is one of two countries Stripe marks preview rather than supported, which means contacting sales instead of signing up. A US LLC with an EIN removes that gate entirely.

What Stripe actually offers India

Verified July 28, 2026

Stripe (direct)
Unverified

India is listed as "Preview" on Stripe's country page โ€” contact-sales rather than open self-serve signup. Access is not guaranteed and is not something we can promise on Stripe's behalf.

Stripe via US LLC
Accepts

Stripe supports US businesses holding an EIN through standard self-serve signup, with no preview gate.

Razorpay / PayU
Accepts

Strong domestic processors serving Indian businesses. Oriented to INR and Indian customers rather than global USD billing.

Payoneer
Accepts

Serves India with multi-currency receiving accounts for collecting international payments.

Provider country policies change without public notice โ€” Mercury revised its prohibited list in 2024 and has amended it since. Treat this page as a starting point that was accurate on the date shown, then check the provider's own page before you apply. We would rather you verify us than trust us on something this consequential.

Preview is not the same as available

India and Indonesia are the only two countries Stripe marks preview. In practice that means a contact-sales flow rather than registering and charging the same day, and access is at Stripe's discretion. For a founder who wants to launch this month, that uncertainty is the problem the US entity solves.

The real Indian complexity is LRS and FEMA, not Stripe

Remitting money out of India to capitalise a foreign company runs through the Liberalised Remittance Scheme, and holding a foreign entity carries FEMA reporting obligations. Doola's India guide โ€” the most visible competitor page on this topic โ€” explains running a US company's Indian subsidiary and largely skips LRS mechanics. Stripe Atlas's India guide does cover FEMA and ODI properly but is Delaware-only at a much higher price.

Where a US LLC genuinely helps an Indian founder

Razorpay and PayU are good products that cap you at INR customers. If your buyers are American SaaS companies or your revenue is USD-denominated, the constraint is not processor quality โ€” it is that your entity is Indian. Many founders run both: the Pvt Ltd for domestic operations, the LLC for international revenue.

Worth knowing before you buy

India is the market where the US-side steps are easiest and the home-side steps are hardest. A smooth Stripe and banking experience can create false confidence about the compliance side โ€” LRS limits and FEMA reporting are where Indian founders actually get into difficulty, and no formation service can handle those for you.

Common questions

What does Stripe "preview" mean for India?

It means a contact-sales route rather than open self-serve signup, with access at Stripe's discretion. It is a real category on Stripe's country page, distinct from both full support and unavailability. You cannot assume you will be onboarded.

Do I need to report a US LLC to Indian authorities?

Holding a foreign entity brings FEMA obligations, and funding it from India runs through the Liberalised Remittance Scheme with its own limits and reporting. The specifics depend on structure and funding, which is why this needs an Indian chartered accountant experienced with outbound structures.

Is a US LLC better than an Indian Pvt Ltd?

They solve different problems and many founders run both. The Pvt Ltd serves Indian customers and operations; the LLC exists to reach Stripe on standard terms, USD banking and US clients who prefer paying a US entity. Treating it as a replacement is usually the wrong model.
