Which US banks actually accept Argentine founders?

Argentina is not on Mercury's prohibited-countries list. The harder question for Argentine founders is not which bank says yes — it is whether ARCA treats the company as genuinely foreign.

Mercury
Accepts

Argentina is absent from Mercury's published prohibited-countries list.

Wise
Accepts

USD receiving through a US LLC is generally reachable. A resident Argentine personal account cannot obtain USD account details on its own.

Payoneer
Accepts

Serves Argentina for receiving international payments.

Relay
Unverified

We could not reach Relay's country list to confirm. Unknown rather than assumed either way.

Provider country policies change without public notice — Mercury revised its prohibited list in 2024 and has amended it since. Treat this page as a starting point that was accurate on the date shown, then check the provider's own page before you apply. We would rather you verify us than trust us on something this consequential.

Banking is the easy part here

Compared with Nigeria, Pakistan or Vietnam, Argentine founders have a comfortable position at the account-opening step. Mercury does not exclude Argentina, and a US LLC is the standard route to USD account details that an Argentine personal account cannot get.

The substance question is the real one

Where an LLC has no genuine substance abroad and is operated entirely from Argentina, the tax authority may look through the structure and treat the income as Argentine. Forming a US LLC to serve real international customers is ordinary. Forming one purely to relocate income on paper, while everything actually happens in Buenos Aires, is the case that attracts scrutiny. No bank account changes that analysis.

Corporate exchange controls are still in force

The cepo was lifted for individuals in April 2025 — residents may buy dollars at the official rate without the old monthly cap. Controls on companies are a separate regime that BCRA leadership confirmed in May 2026 was not a near-term priority to remove. If you read that the cepo is over, check whether the source means individuals or companies.

Worth knowing before you buy

Argentina is the market where getting the bank account is easiest and getting the structure right is hardest. Do not let a smooth Mercury approval substitute for Argentine tax advice on substance and Bienes Personales exposure.

Common questions

Can Argentine founders open Mercury?

Argentina is not on Mercury's prohibited-countries list as of the date shown here. Approval remains subject to Mercury's own underwriting, but there is no country-level barrier of the kind that blocks founders in several other markets we cover.

Will ARCA treat my LLC as Argentine?

It depends on substance. Where a company has no real presence abroad and is run entirely from Argentina, the authority may disregard the structure. This is the most important question on this page and it is genuinely fact-specific — take Argentine tax advice on your own circumstances rather than relying on a general answer.

Is the cepo over?

For individuals, largely — the April 2025 reforms removed the monthly cap and prior-approval requirement for personas humanas. For companies, no. Corporate controls remain in force, confirmed by BCRA in May 2026. This page reflects the position as of 28 July 2026 and Argentina's regime changes often.
